Knowledge is a key competitive driver and Wirral’s young, well educated population provides a quality local labour source for businesses moving into or expanding in the area. With huge regeneration underway in Wirral, residents who have traditionally commuted out of the area to find work, will be able to apply their skills locally.

GCSE and A level results are consistently above the national and regional average, reflecting the excellence of local schools, which include state grammar schools, high performing comprehensives and a number of first class independent schools. There are nine specialist colleges among the local schools, including two engineering colleges, and business colleges with excellent links to industry.

With more than 52,000 people studying at higher education level in Liverpool, the area provides access to one of the largest student populations in the north of England. The number of Wirral residents with graduate level skills of at least NVQ level 4 is on a par with the national average.

Wirral is an Excellence in Cities area, which focuses effort on creating a skilled, enthusiastic and ambitious workforce in order to help regeneration.
