The new 90,000 sq.ft store opened in November 2011 and fronts onto Grange Road so as to maximise the regeneration benefits to the town centre as a whole.
In wider regeneration terms the improvement of the town centre retail 'core' that a major retail store brings to this location are massive and the new store will hopefully act as a catalyst for further regeneration and investment in the area. The physical appearance - public realm and pedestrian walkways - has been significantly improved in this part of Birkenhead as a result of this development.
Philip Bartram, Property Communications Manager for Asda said;
"The new store will help regenerate Birkenhead town centre and provide more choice for shoppers as well as creating significant local employment opportunities."
