Wirral - an International Golf Resort Opportunity

“Blown upon by mighty winds, breeder of mighty champions”

Building on a proud history

Wirral has a proud world class golfing history. Royal Liverpool was founded in 1869 and has been the scene of many of the most significant events in British golfing history.

The Club staged the first ever Open Championship in England in 1897. Nearby Wallasey Golf Club is the place where the Stableford Rules System was created in 1931.

The successful return of The Open Championship in 2006 saw Wirral firmly back on the prestige golfing map. The Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake is the jewel in Wirral’s golfing crown, ably supported by 13 quality golf courses as part of England’s Golf Coast.

England’s Golf Coast is home to some of the most challenging and daunting golf courses in the world located on some of the most naturally beautiful coastline in Britain. England’s Golf Coast is home to no fewer than three famous Royal links courses - Birkdale, Liverpool and Lytham & St Annes. Together these world renowned venues have hosted the Open Championship no fewer than 29 times since 1897. In short, Wirral offers a unique experience of English golf at its historic best.

The Prospect

Our vision is to create a landmark destination for golf and we are seeking a developer who shares our commitment to deliver a high quality world class facility with an international reputation.

This unique resort will include a signature golf course featuring a private clubhouse and a 5 star hotel with restaurant, health and leisure, conference and deluxe spa facilities. The development of a first class golf resort will offer international class sports and hospitality facilities and the opportunity to regularly attract a variety of major golf competitions.

There is currently no comparable resort in the area with consultants Capita Symonds’ research suggesting a definite market exists for a ‘top of the range’ facility in the North West. The proposed site is in close proximity to Royal Liverpool Golf Club and covers 333 acres. It stretches across the Birket Valley to the East of Royal Liverpool and is substantially within the ownership of WirralCouncil.

To capitalise on this success Wirral Council are opening up a rich opportunity to those with drive and ambition to realise the vision of a world class golf resort in Hoylake.
