Bakemark UK
BakeMark UK is the country’s largest producer of bakery ingredients and frozen bakery products, employing 500 people at its Wirral manufacturing facility.
Funding from Wirral Waterfront assisted Bakemark UK to relocate its head office and cookie manufacturing facilities from Milton Keynes to the company’s existing manufacturing site in Bromborough.
The company is part of CSM, the world's largest bakery ingredients supplier and a global business of more than £2 billion. Bakemark’s 1.2million sq ft premises in Wirral produces bread ingredients, cookies, cake mixes, doughnuts and soft icings. It recently re-invested in a new doughnut line at the site, retaining production in the UK rather than transferring to overseas sister companies.
The Mersey Partnership supported the company’s decision-making process with advice on skills and finance. Managing Director of Bakemark UK, Marco Bertacca, said; “The Mersey Partnership was clear, supportive and quick - helping us find pragmatic solutions. Efficient planning and implementation were key aspects of the service we received”. Commenting on the advantages of Merseyside as a business location, he added: “Good land and the availability of space helped give the Liverpool City Region the edge over other locations.”
Bakemark UK has recently received a Tesco Supplier Excellence Award as well as a European Award from CSM Group for its American-style glazed doughnuts (Most Innovative Product).
